Big Mountain Enduro Bend / Mt. Bachelor Finals – – Cancelled Due to Local Fires

Hello racers and teams,

It is unfortunate news and a very tough decision to make, but we had to cancel the BME Finals in Bend / Mt. Bachelor, OR due to poor air quality caused by local fires. We have closely monitored the situation since late last week, were optimistically hoping conditions would improve, but mother nature had other plans.

Our crew has been on the ground all week, working closely with Mt. Bachelor Resort and its weather team to make the safest decision. It is simply not the right move to proceed with the event in the face of fluctuating AQI (Air Quality Index) levels, health concerns, and constantly revolving weather patterns and shifting winds pumping unpredictable levels of smoke into the area.

We apologize in advance for issues this created with your travel plans. It is not our intention or business model to cancel events. This is a last resort, worst case scenario caused by a natural disaster that jeopardizes the health and safety of running a race event. Having been up at Mt. Bachelor daily all week, the AQI levels were constantly changing. As of this morning, things took a turn for the worse and it became too unpredictable to safely proceed with event.

We are working diligently with our insurance company to provide refunds to all registered racers, so please keep an eye out for specific emails in the coming days and weeks regarding that process and timeline.

We will also be sending out updates on how the BME Overall Series winners will be determined. Having two events cancelled this year due to areas outside of our control is sadly unprecedented. Again, stay tuned for more information coming out daily and we’ll do our best to update everyone as we get information.

Team BME

The 2022 Big Mountain Enduro Finals will culminate on September 17-18 in beautiful Bend / Mt. Bachelor, OR. This 2-day event will showcase some of the best riding in Oregon and this venue will challenge racers with the rocky chunder and unique terrain at Mt. Bachelor Bike Park that is ideal for the BME Finale. Racers can expect 2 days of racing within the bike park, tackling the top trails at Mt. Bachelor. There will be no backcountry stages for this year’s event.

As an extension to the 300+ miles of single track offered here in Central Oregon, the Mt. Bachelor Bike Park offers lift served access to more than a dozen miles of downhill oriented trails. Our beginner lift, Little Pine serves as a great introduction to the bike park for all ability levels. From there, riders can progress to Pine Marten Express where a combination of machine built and technical single track trails provide a thrill for any adventurous spirit – from intermediate runs to advance double black diamond trails, such as Rockfall.

The main BME headquarters will be located up at Mt. Bachelor all weekend long, where teams, sponsors and vendors will be located during practice and race days. Racer check-in and packet pick up will take place inside the West Village Lodge on Friday, September 16th from 9am-5pm. The bike park will be closed to the public Monday through Wednesday the week leading up to race weekend, so plan accordingly and be ready for practice first thing Thursday and Friday mornings. Bike park operating hours are from 10am – 5pm, Thursday through Sunday.

Mt. Bachelor is also offering discounted lift passes for participants on both practice days; Thursday and Friday. All racers are required to redeem their racer ticket product online (not at packet pickup) and sign all applicable waivers before picking up their official racer packet. Racer packets can be picked up starting on Friday, September 16 and will contain your 2-Day lift ticket for Mt. Bachelor Bike Park access.

Liability Waiver and Racer Ticket redemption + Additional race day tickets can be facilitated HERE:

Camping will be available in the Mt. Bachelor parking lot, which will also include toilets and showers for racers and teams who prefer to camp on site at the venue. There is NO TENT CAMPING, only RV’s, sprinter vans and vehicle camping.

Spending the night at Mt Bachelor can be an incredible experience. Instead of driving back to town you can gather in the parking lot with friends and family after a day of ripping the bike trails or hiking and sightseeing, then wake up to the alpenglow in the morning. This experience will forever enhance your time in the mountains. Bachelor offers a variety of overnight parking options including powered hook-up sites. Overnight RV parking during Mt. Bachelor’s 2022 summer season is offered from June 11 through October 2. More information can be found HERE on the Mt. Bachelor website.
