BME Mascota, Mexico:

The 3-day BME Sierra Madre stop, taking place in Mascota, Mexico on November 10th – 12th will be one of the most highlighted races of the season. A pure backcountry adventure on some of the best trails in Mexico that will include some vehicle shuttles and pedal transitions throughout the rugged mountains, dropping in and out of traditional Mexican villages each day. For the second year running, this stop will not be part of the 2017 BME point series, so don’t worry about points, rankings or licenses; just pure fun, laid back vibes and 3 days worth of scrappy trails that will challenge the best riders in the world.

Mascota is an authentic Mexican town from the 16th Century, located in a valley surrounded by magnificent mountains 5,000 feet above sea level, just 2 hours inland from the tropical paradise of Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita. The town is an unspoiled hub, with residents living a simple life nestled in the Sierra Madre Mountains. Old time traditions like horse races, burro riding, walks around the plaza, town parties, large family meals and typical drinks are common. Mascota is a really quaint town with lots of authentic Mexican culture, good services and accommodations, nice weather, happy people and super SAFE. This rugged landscape is surrounded by numerous 10,000 feet peaks, with pine forests and very unique fauna throughout every valley, creating a picturesque location for the final BME event of the season.

The BME Sierra Madre event will take riders on the steep and technical mountain trails surrounding the volcano formed valley, having the opportunity to drop into numerous historic villages, connected by mining and ancient hiking trails; today only used by select few bikers and hikers. The riding here is really unique and challenging and there is currently around 150 miles of singletrack for all different levels, and growing daily.

Lodging in Mascota is very nice and affordable. Some of the hotels are old traditional haciendas or “casonas” from the 17th century located in the main village a few steps from the main square, restaurants and the Central Market. Hotels in Mascota have all basic needs including clean facilities, Wi-Fi, parking, some with food and ultimately, very safe. To book your accommodation we suggest emailing or calling straight to the hotel to secure your reservation.
