BME#1 - The Buffalo Pass Enduro - July 20-22, 2012

Overview

This is going to be a great high country enduro. Of the three Big Mountain Enduros this one is going to require and favor riders with better fitness. There are several short middle chain ring climbs that will test your lungs and legs! There is very little if any snow left on course and it will all most certainly be gone by race day. The flies and mosquito's are abundant so bring your bug spray! This race course will have between 4,600 and 4,900 feet of fun, fast descending. Due to specific regulations all riders will need to ride a shuttle provided by the race to the start on Buffalo Pass.

Race Start Info

The race will be mass start by category. Start wave order:

Pro/Open Men   8:00am
Pro/Open Women   8:05am
Amateur Men   8:15am
Amateur Women   8:20am

(Women's classes may be combined based on final participant numbers)

Course Description

Race will start at the very top of Buffalo Pass in the main parking area. From there the course will proceed to the overflow horse trailer parking lot, then on to trail 1101 (Colo/Wyoming Trail) for approximately 6 miles. At the four-way intersection the course turns right onto Trail 1102 (Fish Creek Falls Trail) and past Long Lake. Follow 1102 approx. 1/2 mile, then veer left onto 1132 (Mountain View Trail) and following single track to the top of the Steamboat Ski Area, culminating in a final 3400' descent on these specific trails: Pete's Wicked Trail, turning right on Cathy's Cuttoff, then veering right on Sunshine Trail. At the bottom of Sunshine Trail, take a left on the road and proceed to the top of the gondola. At the top of the gondola, veer left onto Upper Rustler's Ridge, descending to Valley View Trail, then back on to lower Rustler's Ridge, traversing to the top of Buckin Bronc (jump line trail), then to the finish line at the base of the ski area.

The course direction will be marked with black arrows on white coroplast signs, as well as pink surveying tape, every 1/2 mile.
